Sanderson, Brandon -- The Emperor's Soul

Minor novella. The setup is a standard Sanderson-style magical gimmick. The story, I think, is supposed to be a character study as the protagonist and everyone else maneuver around the gimmick. Sanderson's strong point is not character study, so both ends wind up feeling weak.
