The top one is for desktop use; I can lean over it and poke. The bottom one is for display on a shelf, if I ever feel the need to do that. (Clever idea credit to Boingboing.)
Total cost: the cardboard spacer thingies that came in the iPad box, a cardboard box I had from something-or-other I mail-ordered, and a couple of plastic cards from my semi-useful-junk drawer.
